cell phones and brain cancer

Hey guys. So I thought I'd give everyone a heads up about some new findings about cell phone use. This link is to an article and an interview about new evidence that cell phones may cause brain cancer. Cell phones emit microwaves. When we place them next to our skull, we're exposing our brains to these waves. The closer the cell phone is to your skull and the more you talk, the greater the exposure. They advise using speaker phone or hands free devices like ear pieces. They also warn about kids using cell phones since their skulls are thinner than an adult's and their brains are still developing.

Sorry this isn't a real picker upper.

Natalie is holding up the world at the dinosaur museum. She royally freaked out at this place. Thanks goodness for Bethany, who forced her through the cretacious period. Now all she talks about is seeing Lucy with the dinosaurs.

I got this picture of Joe and Hailey at Bethany's cousin's house, before an Easter egg hunt in what seemed like sub-zero temperatures.

She's bad, eh! I was in the middle of a piano lesson when Natalie wouldn't stop whining about help down the stairs because of the getup she'd chosen. The boots are Shea's and Natalie is holding her swimsuit in the right hand.

Sorry so late, but I loved this picture of Jack on his blessing day.

This is the jacket that Nicole's hubby Brian gave Jack. It has a little badge on the left chest that says "United States Secret Service."

This is how Natalie shows her love for her brother. 

Natalie is in Heaven. This is her notion of "holding" Jack. Notice her bear is kissing her lion. She has to have at least 5-7 stuffed animals every time we change her daiper or attempt to leave a room.

Once again, it's time for the Shaha Blog's weekly dose of Demotivational Posters. It's nice to know that while I can't post pictures of cute kids or nice trips or anything else like that, I can still contribute to the Blog. Anyway, enjoy the posters.

Excuse the language in this one, but it's one of my favorites.
This one always provides me a nice little trip down memory lane, I imagine it does the same for my siblings and the rest of the Nintendo generation.

This one invokes a great question between Ben and Joe's age group and Dave's. I was lucky, my childhood also included both groups (and freaking Voltron to boot).

And last but certainly not least, a simultaneous tribute to the late great "Macho Man" Randy Savage and an explanation for why the world didn't end last week.

Polish Heroes

Before I forget, I wanted to write about a great experience I had at the US Ambassador's house. I was able to attend a reception where we honored US-Polish military cooperation. Several Polish Soldiers and officers were awarded American medals for service in Afghanistan and Iraq. World War II veterans were also there. I think the most honorable men alive today are those that fought in the Warsaw Uprising. They fought the Germans under impossible odds for 63 days, losing the same people daily that we lost in the World Trade Center on September 11th. Then, when they finally surrendered, they were hunted down and murdered by the NKVD (KGB) and the Polish Communists who took charge in Poland thanks to Stalin and Roosevelt's either apathy or lack of backbone. Jerzy Bartnik is a veteran of the Warsaw Uprising and he spoke at the ceremony. His code name during the war was "Magik" which means "the Magician." He was in the Polish Home Army's (underground) "Parasol" unit which conducted a lot of high risk missions including sabotage and Nazi assassinations. He was nicknamed "Magik" because he was able to survive so many suicide missions. He is the youngest recipient of Poland's Medal of Honor (the Virtuti Militari) which he received at age 14. As a blonde, blue-eyed, German speaking teenager, he navigated his way through occupied Poland to bring word to Allies in Italy. He refused to stay with the Allies and returned through enemy lines again to Warsaw to fight in the Uprising in 1944. After the Uprising, he was in a Nazi prison which was liberated by the British. After the war, wanted in Poland as a criminal insurrectionist, he decided to emigrate to America. In his speech, he got a little choked up when he mentioned his gratitude for America because "they gave me the opportunity to have a family." The Warsaw Uprising must be one of the most significant least know battles in history. Its heroes will soon all be gone and they will likely not live to see the appreciation they deserve. But, they don't care. They have their honor and their families.

Double Blessing Weekend

Thought we'd post some of our photos from the weekend of blessings--both Jack and Hailey got blessed by their dads Sunday 1 May at Katie and Shea's ward, then Katie hosted a wild party to break the fast and celebrate. Wish you all could have been there.

Here is the survivors shot just before Gamma and Gampa had to hustle off to the airpor to get back to work. It was well worth the trip as this was a most wonderful weekend with family. Note Jack's silk tux (care of Jada, of course) and Hailey's gown handmade by Linda (of course).

Natalie rolled out of bed at one point

so had a Wolverine bandaid placed to heal the headache. Appears to have done the trick--or maybe it was the curlers were on too tight.

She looked awesome (like a pwincess) in her neat-as-heck new dress with the flowers on it and her fancy curly hairs. Momma Katie does such a great job.

Jack was pretty psyched for his big blessing day, but was having a trying hair day.

Hailey looked awesome in her hot blessing gown--sort covered some of those chin rolls.

Joe looked great, and if you can't tell, Bethany was glad to see him, as well as Lucy. Hailey was pretty worn out from all that behaving at the head of the congregation.

Bethany's family was out in force for the occasion--took this group shot just before the California contingent had to load up and head south. Bethany's cousin had a very nice luncheon for everyone on Saturday, complete with Gramma Abeyta running an amazing Easter Egg event with prizes.

Several other familials made it to the event as well--it was great seeing everyone. And we're looking forward to seeing as many as can make it to the 12 Aug 11 marriage for James and Jin.
