Oakley Fae Shaha

Hey guys!

Here are some pictures of little Oakley. She was born at 0050 hrs on Wednesday July 27. She weighed 7 lbs 10 oz and was 19 and 3/4 inches long. She's so much fun. She has been really calm and not too fussy so far. We're so thrilled to have her around!

This is right after she was born. As you can tell, she looks a little stunned.

Here's the fam. She was a little overwhelmed by everything and unable to smile for the picture.

Mom and Dad came to visit today and really thought Oakley was awesome. Mom had this picture of Emily as a newborn that looks just like Oakley. Pretty cool.

This is Lisa, Wendy's Mom. She's been out here the past few weeks. We were all glad she finally got to see the baby (Oakley was 10 days late!). Oakley was a little frustrated she had to go.

This is my favorite so far.

Oakley's Arrival!!

Once again the old man demonstrates his digital immigrance--why won't these photos stay ROTATED!! But you'll get the idea. Mom and I prepared to visit Dave and Wendy and their new baby, Oakley. Guess which burger was Mom's!

And of course the obligatory visit to the baby outlets. The manager here salivates every time they see Mom approach the door.

Well, the photos from here on out got all jumbled--again I loaded stuff in the wrong order (sometimes it's hard to be an immigrant). But AIN'T SHE CUTE!

Check out her hair--could get a haircut already at 3 days old.

And very alert--notice her selection of the pink elephant jammies for her first stroller ride in public.

Being the center of attention is pretty exhausting.

This photo should have come at the beginning of our visit--Oakley's first bath at home. She did very well--not a squawk. And Wendy looks so good you wouldn't believe she had a 34 hour labor and delivery just 2 days before this photo. What a woman!

Thanks Dave and Wendy for a great visit and for being such a wonderful family already.

When Life Gives you Lemons, Post Demotivators

Hello family, I've been feeling really down lately and I'm sure somebody once said that a good way to cope with that is to laugh. So with that in mind, here's my attempt to spread some laughter and maybe feel a little better...and I especially hope all of you enjoy them.

I think that guy crossed it a while ago.
I'd like to think the reason the Bald Eagle is our nation's symbol has something to do with this picture.

Tomb of the Unknow in Athens: Change of the Guard

Athens

I am in Athens today. The only evidence you'll have is my word. Since CAroline chucked my camera to the floor, it has ceased to operate. That coupled with me stepping on it in 2006 in Iraq have convinced me to buy a new camera. I went to Acropolis and the Parliament/Tomb of teh Unknown Soldier. Both sites were really neat. The Parthenon sits way up high on a hill. I never realized. I ate some good Greek food at a nearby restaurant. They had really good food, especially cheese and dessert. The lamb was kind of like Iraq. It even feels a little like Iraq here. Minus explosions. I met some of the protesters. There's this one lady that has been singing/whining like a cat in a megaphone for the past 3 days. I asked the officer in chage of the change of the guard if she was driving them crazy yet. There's also this weird guy standing in front of the Parliament, frozen with his arms up in the air. I guess he thinks he's a prophet or something. He's been around for years, they said. The students also had a microphone/soapbox thing going which was interesting. The change of the guard is cool. They have these balls on their boots that make them look like Mickey Mouse boots. I go to meetings at the embassy tomorrow and then on to Turkey.

Demotivators

Sorry for the delay, but I was on the river all day Saturday. So, without delay here's the latest batch of Demotivators.

Ben and Dave were big fans of the Anorexia one from last week, so here's one that's along the same lines.

Because nothing says I love you like a bouquet of Cholesterol.

Scalped Sandals

Hey all, Dave requested these first photos after I told him about what happened. I went on a rafting trip with some other YSAs down the Ocoee River, when it was over I looked down at my sandals and asked myself "Hmm, what's missing from this picture?"

This is what the bottom of my sandals look like now.
